Lagos Fringe is calling for Critics and Reviewers

Fancy writing for the Lagos Fringe this year? The Festival has opened up call for young critics and reviewers. We would love to see theatre reviewers apply to this opportunity. Here are details from the Fringe website:

Eligibility criteria

  1. Applicants must be 18 years of age and over.

  2. Applicants must be of African origin and can be resident anywhere around the world.

  3. Applicants with or without experience are encouraged to apply.


Applicants with experience must possess

  1. A strong portfolio of published reviews and critical writings in reputable art publications or online platforms.

  2. A degree in art history, criticism, journalism, or a related field, and/or participation in writing workshops or critical studies programs.

  3. References: Letters of recommendation from editors, curators, or other established art professionals.

 

Applicants without experience must 

  1. Show a demonstrated interest in contemporary art practices, theories, and trends.

  2. Possess excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.

  3. Show commitment to maintaining independent and objective critical perspectives.

  4. Present a clear proposal outlining the project’s goals, scope, and outcomes, including a plan for research, writing, and public engagement during the residency.

  5. References: Letters of recommendation from editors, curators, or other established art professionals.

Selected participants are encouraged but not mandated to participate in the physical sessions in Nigeria. Selected participants who do not reside in Nigeria but choose to be part of the physical program will be responsible for their travel expenses.

 

Obligation of the participants 

  1. Participants must be available for the duration of the online training.

  2. Participants who choose to be present at the festival must publish content on the festival activities on a publishing platform. The reviews can either be written or in video format as the case be. Participants without experience will be required to make posts on a publishing platform (Social media, traditional media, e.t.c).
