The Swamp Dwellers Stage Play Showing in Sheffield This July

The Swamp Dwellers, the acclaimed play by Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, is showing in Sheffield this July in a new production presented by Utopia Theatre.

Directed by Mojisola Kareem, known for the Crown of Blood stage project, the production reimagines Soyinka's classic story for contemporary audiences, exploring themes of survival, displacement, family, and hope against the backdrop of environmental change.

Set in a community surrounded by flooded land and failed harvests, the play follows people caught between the hardships of rural life and the uncertain promise of the city. As families wait, difficult choices must be made, raising timeless questions about belonging, sacrifice, and resilience.
