The Shoemaker’s Wonderful Wife Stage Play Showing in Abuja This November

The Shoemaker’s Wonderful Wife is a stage play showing in Abuja on November 5, 2026, as part of the Abuja International Theatre Festival and Awards (ABITFA 2026). Produced by Jos Repertory Theatre, the production is based on the work of Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca and explores marriage, societal expectations and the tension between reality and fantasy.

The play centres on the mismatched marriage between an older shoemaker and his young wife, examining how differences in age, personality and expectations can create conflict within a relationship. Through satire, the production explores how societal pressures shape private lives and how individuals navigate the gap between their personal desires and the expectations others place on them.

Beyond its portrayal of marital tensions, The Shoemaker’s Wonderful Wife also explores themes of redemption and interdependence, offering audiences an opportunity to reflect on relationships, human behaviour and the complexities of living together.

The performance is organised under ABITFA 2026, and audiences are invited to attend for free.
