The Calabar Girl Stage Play Comes to Port Harcourt This November

Nov 4, 2025

Get ready for a night of drama, culture, and connection as The Calabar Girl takes the stage on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the Atlantic Hall, Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt.

Promoted as a thrilling live theatre experience, this play is a modern retelling of The Woman of Calabar, the celebrated 2001 play by Nigerian author Elechi Amadi. Through compelling storytelling and rich performances, the play revisits Amadi’s timeless exploration of inter-ethnic marriage, unity, and coexistence in Nigeria’s vibrant multicultural society.

Synopsis:

"Mrs Akrika refutes the love relationship between Adia and her son, Eme, who now works in Calabar. She will stop at nothing to sever the duo, just because the girl is from Calabar.

To finally separate them, Mrs Akrika travels all the way to visit Eme, but she makes an amazing discovery that reverses her action, which brings happiness to the young lovers."

Produced by DTR – Dr Tee (Tayo) Repertory, the play embodies the troupe’s mission as a performing arts social laboratory for community development.
